Hello, Devoted Flock! 🐑
What a wild ride, and what an unforgettable three (and a bit) weeks it's been 😃.
🔥 Final Campaign Stats
You helped us rise a total of £2,608,919!
Our mighty Flock includes 14,028 backers!
You unlocked 45 Stretch Goals and 14 Social Goals!
🙏 Thank You!
First and foremost, thank you to every single one of you. Whether you pledged, shared the campaign, left a comment, voted in a poll, or supported us in any other way, you've helped make this campaign something truly special. We couldn't have wished for a more wonderful Flock.
On a personal note, I (James) and Chris want to say thank you to the entire Paper Fort Games team. Each member of the team has gone above and beyond throughout the campaign, and this simply wouldn't have been possible without all of their hard work and dedication 🙏. I (James) have greatly enjoyed answering each and every one of your comments and messages, thank you to many backers as well for jumping in when we were offline overnight.
Finally, we'd also like to give a huge thank you to Massive Monster and Devolver for trusting us to bring Cult of the Lamb to the tabletop. We're equally grateful to the incredibly talented freelance creatives who helped shape the campaign through their videography, soundtrack, and voiceover work. You've all played a part in bringing this project to life. 💪
❓ What Happens Next?
The whole PFG team will be taking some time off to recover from the campaign; if you have any questions, please feel free to message us via Kickstarter or email us at [email protected] but please bear in mind we will only answer once we’re back in the office.
💳 Card Charges
Your payment method will be charged shortly after the campaign ends. If the payment fails, Kickstarter will notify you and give you a chance to update your payment details and try again. We don’t control the payment system, so if you’re having problems, please reach out to Kickstarter Support using this form: https://help.kickstarter.com/hc/en-us/requests/new .
Shipping costs and any applicable taxes are not charged yet; they will be collected later via the pledge manager, after surveys are completed.
🧾 Pledge Manager
We aim to open the post-campaign pledge manager (BackerKit) in September, but it might take a little longer.
You’ll receive an invitation to the pledge manager via email (sent to the email address you use for Kickstarter). Here, you’ll be able to review your pledge, manage add-ons, purchase additional copies of the game, choose languages and provide updated delivery addresses in the case of a house move. It’s also where you’ll pay for your shipping, and taxes (if applicable).
You’ll receive emails from BackerKit before we lock orders and addresses, and before we charge cards for shipping. To avoid missing these emails, please add [email protected] to your safelist to stop them being marked as spam.
💬 Comments and Messages
Once we are back, we will be checking and responding to comments on the Kickstarter page and to Kickstarter messages intermittently.
📄 Updates
We will be publishing Kickstarter updates once a month to keep you in the loop. We may post additional updates with important milestones or information, but at a minimum we will check in monthly to report on progress (even if it’s just to say ‘nothing new to report’!).
🖥️ Desktop Backgrounds
Shortly after we return to the office, all backers will receive a Kickstarter message containing a link to a COTL-themed desktop background; we hope you enjoy it!
Thank you for everything, Devoted flock… Praise the Lamb! 🐏
James, Chris and the Paper Fort Games Team.
(We're flocking off for a while- catch you later!)

Hello, Devoted Flock! 🐑
We’re in the last few days of the campaign; soon Kickstarter will be measuring time left in the campaign in hours rather than days – a sure sign that the end is fast approaching!
It’s hard to believe how quickly this campaign has flown by. Every pledge, comment, share, and kind word has helped bring Cult of the Lamb: The Board Game to this point, and we can’t thank you enough for being part of the journey.
We've got loads to reveal and share in this update, so let's jump in!
🔥 Campaign Progress
We've just passed £1.98 million in funding! 🤯
The Flock has grown to over 10,400backers
You've unlocked 44 Stretch Goals and 12 Social Goals
💩 Win a Gold-Plated Poop!
Yep, you read that correctly!
Just before fulfilment, once manufacturing is complete, we’ll randomly select one backer who has the Blessed Droppings pack included in their pledge (either as a standalone add-on or as part of the All-In Deluxe pledge) to receive a one-of-a-kind genuine gold-plated poop – truly the most blessed of droppings.
Please note, whether you’ve pledged for 1 Blessed Droppings pack or 100, you’ll receive a single entry into the draw. After all, the Lamb is generous… but even divine blessings have limits.
✨Final Stretch Goal Revealed!
The support on this campaign has blown us all away - we couldn’t end this campaign without a final token of our appreciation… so if we hit £2 million, we’re adding Aym & Baal!
That’s right - everyone's favourite cat boys Aym & Baal will be included at all pledge levels - as a standee in the retail version, single-colour miniature in the Deluxe edition and a multicolour miniature in the All-In Deluxe!
Read on to discover more about the Gateway encounters and learn how these feline foes will make their appearance in your game!
🏡Community Giveaway Result
Thank you to everyone who submitted a photo of their base as part of our community giveaway! Whether or not your base is featured below, thank you - we had such a great time looking through all of your incredible creations, and it was amazing to see the creativity and care you’ve put into your bases.
You’ll find the winning base below, along with a selection of some of our other favourites. The winner has already been contacted via DM - congratulations! 🎉
Congratulations to our winner, bluqueer, who submitted their base via IG!
Some of our other favourite bases, submitted by Cupofco85056641 (top left, via Twitter/X), hashmaxwell (top right, via IG), sina_hellow (bottom left, via Twitter/X) and kkyoo.0 (bottom right, via IG).
🎂 Happy 4th Birthday to Cult of the Lamb!
Today marks 4 years since Cult of the Lamb was released; Happy Lamb-iversary to everyone involved and congratulations on reaching this wonderful milestone - here’s to many more years of serving the Lamb. 🙏🐑
✅ Poll Result + Runner Up Showdown!
The result of our fourth poll is in – you voted for the Axolotl to join our Flock!
This Follower Form will be included in every copy of the game as either a standee (Retail edition) or wooden head (Deluxe/ Deluxe All-In editions).
We thought it was only fair to give the runners-up from our polls one more chance to make it into the game. So, here we are - the final showdown! This is your chance to have the final say. The two Follower Forms with the highest number of votes will be added to the game!
Will you choose 🐶 Poppy, 🐴 Horse, 🦒 Giraffe or 🪱 Worm?
💖 Our Favourite Adoptee Names
Thank you to everyone who submitted name suggestions for our Social Goal adoptees! We had a great time reading through all of your ideas, and we’ve picked out some of our favourites to share below.
Once the campaign has ended, we’ll run additional polls so you can help us choose the final name for each adoptee. Since Kickstarter only allows us to run one poll per update (and we may need a slightly more sophisticated voting system to narrow down the choices) it might take us a little time to get everything set up. We’ll keep you posted, and we can’t wait to see which names you choose!
🐑 Lambert, Bäälzebub, Mee-ple, Lucifer
🦉 Hootananny, Owlet, Stolas, A. Hoot
🐍 Ouroboros, Snek, Medusa, Eden
🐐 Billy, Gary, Phillip, Goatfrey
🔦 Solo Spotlight
Cult of the Lamb: The Board Game can be played solo (i.e with 1 player), with a card-based bot (sometimes called an 'automa') taking the place of a second player at your table. Designed to simulate the decisions and strategy of a human opponent, the bot provides a challenging experience while adding only a small amount of upkeep.
Solo Rules at a Glance
To begin, you'll choose an unused Prophet for the bot and set up the game for two players, with a few key differences. For example, the bot does not use intent cards or a building board, so these are left out during setup. Instead, it uses a cult progress board and a deck of 12 solo behaviour cards.
WIP solo components.
During the Crusade Phase, the bot follows a simple decision tree to make quick choices that will either help or hinder your progress through the Crusade. The rules also explain when to resolve the bot's Curse and Tarot cards, keeping its turns fast and consistent.
At the start of each Cult Phase, you'll draw a solo behaviour card and use the cult progress board to determine which of the behaviour card's actions the bot will perform - this determines whether the bot prioritises caring for its Followers or increasing its combat strength.
To keep the bot streamlined and easy to manage, its resources and buildings are tracked differently from those of a human player. Each time it gains resources or constructs a building, its position on the cult progress board's tracks changes instead. This creates a clear, readable strategy that you can react to throughout the game, making solo play feel strategic and dynamic without the book-keeping of playing "two-handed" and needing to simulate every move of a second player yourself.
😼 Narinder Spotlight
Cult of the Lamb: The Board Game includes an optional final showdown: The Gateway.
If players agree during setup to include The Gateway in their playthrough, they will not crown a winner after the fourth Cult phase. Instead, each player’s Victory Point total becomes something far more valuable - a final chance to survive and claim ultimate victory!
The Gateway is a two-part battle against Baal & Aym, followed by Narinder - The One Who Waits. These encounters are Boss and Bishop fights with a twist; they introduce new mechanisms inspired by the video game, including Narinder's unique attack patterns and a dramatic second phase featuring summoned Eyeballs that must be dealt with quickly.
The biggest twist in these fights is that your Prophet can no longer die.
Instead, once reduced to 0 Health, every additional point of damage costs Victory Points. Suddenly, the points you've spent four rounds earning become a resource you can burn to stay alive just a little longer.
This creates a satisfying finale where combat-focused players can rely on their strength and firepower to bring Narinder down, while builders and optimisers can draw on the high Victory Point totals they've accumulated through careful resource management and their building-based income engine. Alternatively, if you’ve acquired Curses and Tarot Cards that increase your Health or reduce incoming damage, you’ll be able to survive longer before your Victory Points start to dwindle. Everyone has a fighting chance, whatever the playstyle.
And of course... once Narinder falls, you'll have one final choice to make: will you spare The One Who Waits or end his reign forever?
🙏 Help the Flock Grow!
As we enter the final stretch of the campaign, we’d really appreciate it if you could share the page with anyone who might be interested in joining the devoted Flock:
Once again, thank you so much for your support, enthusiasm, kind words, and for helping make this campaign such a fantastic experience. We’re incredibly grateful to have such an amazing community behind us.
Until next time!

💾 Save System Spotlight
Based on feedback from our playtesters and backers, we’re adding a save system to COTL: The Board Game!
The game is designed to be played through as a complete adventure, but we know that not every game night goes according to plan. Sometimes you run out of time, or you simply want to spread your campaign across several sessions. With the new save system, you can pause your game and return to it later without losing your progress.
Every pledge level will include a dedicated save system, featuring four Prophet save boxes and one general save box. These will help you keep track of your campaign and store the key components needed to continue your game when you're ready.
You’ll be able to save your game after completing any Crusade or Cult phase. Each player will use their Prophet save box to store their personal cards and components, and the boxes will also help you record important information including your Prophet's weapon, forged dice, Faith, Followers, resources, and unlocked buildings. The general save box will keep track of shared elements of the game, including the available Doctrines, Followers, and Curses from the market board.
Once you've saved your progress, you can pack the game away as normal. When you're ready to continue, simply use the information and components stored in the save boxes to pick up where you left off.
Whether you finish your Crusade in one long session or spread it across several game nights, we hope this makes it easier to enjoy COTL: The Board Game at your own pace.
Thanks to everyone who shared their feedback and helped us make this addition to the game!
🎤 Rogueliker Interview
Recently, Chris spoke to Mike Holmes, editor of rogueliker.com, about the challenges of bringing Cult of the Lamb from the screen to the tabletop and how we’ve worked to capture the feel of the video game while making the most of what board games can offer.
From abstracting the core gameplay loop to creating a tactile experience that feels true to the original, the conversation covers some of the ideas that have shaped the tabletop version. You can read the interview here: https://rogueliker.com/cult-of-the-lamb-the-board-game-interview/

Be sure to follow @smithel_art on Instagram for more fantastic miniature painting, including Pokémon, LOTR, and Star Wars minis! The account currently has fewer than 100 followers, so let's see if we can help get that into the thousands through the power of the Flock, shall we? 💪

We’re very excited to announce that in addition to English, French, Spanish and German, Cult of the Lamb: The Board Game is now available in Polish and Italian!

🛠️ Behind the Scenes – Building Prototypes
If you've watched any of the overview or gameplay videos on the campaign page, you may have noticed the occasional component that looks almost final ... but not quite. Maybe a board with a sticker on it, a handmade component, or something that looks like it came out of the home workshop. There's a reason for that!
We're a small team, so we build all of our prototypes ourselves, right here in the office. Every time we make a gameplay improvement or tweak a rule, we're back at the cutting table making new components to make sure our prototypes are up to date. That means printing, cutting and corner-rounding a lot of cards, bagging up countless little pieces, and spraying 3D-printed versions of the game's miniatures until the office starts to smell like we've accidentally summoned something from the Old Faith.
It takes a long time, but there's something special about knowing that we've had our hands on every prototype that goes out into the world. It also means we can keep testing, tweaking and improving the game right up until the moment it hits mass production. Until recently, we were even making our dual-layer punchboards using a laser cutter. Thankfully, they're now close enough to final that our manufacturer can take over that particular job and save us a few more hours down in the smoky laser mines.
We've included a few snaps below of the process in action, so you can see what goes on behind the scenes!
We recently finished putting together and sending out another handful of prototypes, which means you can expect to see more gameplay and overview videos from different creators appearing on the campaign page over the remainder of the campaign.
❤️ Thank You
Thank you for your enthusiasm, and for helping us bring Cult of the Lamb: The Board Game to life. We couldn't do it without you, Devoted Flock! 🐑
